Marking three years work, publication of this mammoth work of 214 color digitally-rendered profiles was completed in 2008 Along with coverage of mainstream airplanes which complimented the Fifth's ranks, also profiled are the more rare types which served, including the O-47A, L-4 and L-5, F-4 & F-5 Lightnings. UC-45, UC-64, B-18, Curtiss Falcon, & A-26. Even a Tiger Moth which served with the 49th Fighter Group in Darwin is included !
Each profile is meticulously detailed, few having been depicted elsewhere before. The text of 187 pages is both technical and historical, outlining the history and development of the multifarious color schemes and heraldry which decorated the Fifth's airplanes. Where appropriate, enlargements of nose-art and other markings are provided. So are signatures of many Fifth AF pilots, rendered from a visitor's log book formerly held at Amberley AFB, Australia. Japanese records were also consulted to complete histories where appropriate.
To ensure accurate color depiction, the book is published in electronic format. What this means in simple terms is that:
- you purchase the book on CD disk (in DVD case with color cover as shown), as a high resolution pdf file;
- you can print out book in sections or as a whole, in hardcopy, and in photographic quality (if you wish);
- the price is considerably reduced (USD $22.50 instead of an estimated USD $73.00);
- delivery to anywhere in the world is included in the price.
