This is the Nadzab boneyard in mid 1944, and the carcas is that of Big Chief. Behind it are seen two 'Green Dragon' 408th Bombardment Squadron Mitchell strafers marked for scrapping.

Big Chief's last flight took place on 23rd April 1944 after she was shot up over a northern New Guinea target. Control was lost on the landing, and they towed her away to the boneyard. The old bomber was finally scrapped here in 1948.
