  B25D Baby Blitz # 41-29705

13th Bombardment Squadron

3rd Bombardment Group

Fifth Air Force

An unidentified airman squats alongside what remains of the upper turret of Baby Blitz. The heat was such in the fire that one can see the melting and oxidisation of several aluminim castings around the steel turret assembly.

The photo is taken at Durand Drome, after Japanese G4M1 bombers from the 705th Kokutai based at Rabaul destroyed three Mitchells from this squadron on 12th April 1943.

The other two Mitchells destroyed on the same raid were #41-29714 Fair Dinkum, and #41-29719 The Grim Reaper.
