  A-20G-25-DO serial # 43-9629

675th Bombardment Squadron

417th Bombardment Group

Fifth Air Force

On Black Sunday pilot Ed Davidson put this A-20G down on a short boggy strip near Yamai village. As the aircraft coasted through mud the LH maingear collapsed, the end result seen here. Davidson was badly bruised, and one of his gunners badly cut his scalp. The A-20G would never fly again, its fuselage salvaged by the RAAF some forty years later. Davidson's biggest concern after safely exiting the aircraft was what his Commanding Officer might say. Ironically, there were two Davidson's downed by Black Sunday - the other being 2/Lt Charles Davidson of the 388th Squadron.

Aerothentic has a detailed book on Black Sunday.
