3rd Bombardment Group

Fifth Air Force

The sad reamins of Mitchell Fair Dinkum, named after the Australian expression meaning 'the real thing'. The heat was such in the fire that the complete forward fuselage section was malted.

The photo is taken at Durand Drome, after Japanese G4M1 bombers from the 705th Kokutai based at Rabaul destroyed three Mitchells from this squadron on 12th April 1943.

The other two Mitchells destroyed on the same raid were #41-29705 Baby Blitz, and #41-29719 The Grim Reaper.
