A close-up
of the original shows the name 'Fifi' on the side of this A-20A
as it cruises against the backdrop of New Guinea's rugged Owen Stanley
ranges, at an altitude of approximately 8,000 feet.
Fifi also bore two other names
Hell's Fire and Aces Up as she transitioned assigned pilots
during her combat tour with the 89th Squadron. Around October 1943 all
of these A-20As were replaced by G model A-20s, with an electrically
driven Martin rear turret.
Thus Fifi left the employ
of the 89th Squadron and was re-assigned to the RAAF where she was allocated
the RAAF serial A28-34. Her last days were spent as an instructional
airframe for apprentices in Victoria, Australia, to be finally written
off as spare parts on 18th August 1945.
