Taken from the rear gun pit of an accompanying
A-20A, this magnificent head-on shot was taken in late 1942 as Eight
Ball heads back from a mission
Eight Ball's time would end on 17th August 1943
when Captain Nenneman had both engines shot out over Salamaua. He ditched
the ship in Dot Inlet where he and his gunner swam to shore. They were
picked up by PBY and were soon back at Kila Drome to relate the tale.
Their A-20A rests to this day peacefully at the bottom of Dot Inlet,
not far from Loloata Dive resort.
