7th Fighter Squadron 49th Fighter Group Based at Batchelor Field, Australia's Northern Territory from March to September 1942 2/Lt Joseph King poses with both his Warhawk and camera. Although the wearing of goggles in combat was encouraged by the USAAF for eye-protection during combat, many pilots chose not to do so as it impaired their vision at critical moments. We are thankful King took his modest camera to war, as seen here, for had he not done so none of this web page would have been possible.
