Garbutt near Townsville was where the Fifth Air
Force had a mighty complex for the servicing, assembly, and modification
of aircraft.
Here we see a just-assembled Q model Airacobra being tested at Garbutt
before it is delivered to the 82nd Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron
in New Guinea. This unit, plus the 110th TCS flew Airacobras on strafing
missions until the end of 1944 in New Guinea.
