A nice study of a 35th Fighter Group
'jug' at its best, as it taxies out at Morotai for a fighter sweep .
The forward V marking on the cowl indicates the Group, whilst the name
Miss Lorraine was painted in flowing letters just forward and
below the cockpit windshield.
The rudder markings were applied at this late stage
of the war purely as a decorative measure to emulate the pre-war red
and white stripe markings. The long matt black stripe on top of the
fuselage in front of the cockpit is an anti-glare panel.
This particular photo was taken on 8th January 1945.
Whichever way you looked at it, the Jug was a big and intimidating fighter
