Taken at Hollandia in late 1944, here we see Captain
Frank Hogan and his crew in front of Hogan's assigned A-20G, Battlin'
Bob. Note the club insignia under the tail, denoting the 386th Squadron.
Deceptively, the tail letter on the aircraft is a capital I, not a T.
On 7th January 1945 as Hogan took this aircraft across
Clark Field in abreast formation with dozens of other A-20s and B-25s,
Japanese AA removed the aircraft from the sky. It came to rest in a
field, and Filipino guerillas returned the wounded Hogan to safety a
few weeks later.
Note also in the background of the photo is a ground
crew member who is using the aircraft's rear tail hook to sling a hammock.
