Patched Up Piece, was a converted Consolidated Liberator, and the first
aircraft of the 20th Combat Mapping Squadron air echelon to depart the
U.S. for the Pacific, which it did on 23rd February 1944 at 2300 hours.
It was also the first aircraft to land at Middleburg 14th August 1944,
due to engine troubles.
This aircraft began life as the first B-24J-1-CF manufactured at Fort
Worth, and made its inaugural flight from the Texas factory on 14th
September 1943.
The noseart was painted by Al Merkling, the most famous of all Fifth
Air Force artists.
