ROSE OF SAN ANTONE
was serial #40-1552, and had the fortune never to be lost to combat
or operations. The name, just visible in this photo, appeared in yellow
stencils just underneath the bomb stencil markings.
If you look carefully you can see flak markings underneath
the lower three bomb markings where ROSE OF SAN ANTONE had been
hit by Japanese Anti-aircraft fire over Lae, the reason the two crew
posed for the photograph.
In the 2nd Squadron at this time were several other
B-26s with noseart, including, Flying Circus, Little Audry, Miss
Mercury, Old Timer, Shamrock, Shoot You're Faded, So Sorry, The Avenger,
and The Thunderbird
