Rather than being a late-comer to the war, a common
impression about the C-54, the type actually entered production as early
as February 1942. This particular E model was built in 1944 at the Douglas
Aircraft Corporation plant in Santa Monica, California, shortly after
which it entered service with Air Transport Command, mainly flying between
the SWPA and the U.S
