Close examination of this photo reveals the number 55 on the nose. The location is Strauss Field in Australia's Northern Territory, and the timeframe is circa April 1942.

This particular P-40E was assigned to 2/Lt Clyde H. Barnett of the 8th FS. Camouflage netting is draped over the gum trees to the rear.
