Another isolated forced-landing brought to you by Aerothentic

Just to prove that not all combat crashes were in the combat zone !

The aircraft is RAAF Hudson A16-133 which forced landed on 11th June 1943 near its training case at Bairnsdale in Victoria, Australia.

An engine problem placed the bomber here, and it took a salvage unit several days to disassemble the aircraft and take it to Tocumwal, in New South Wales. The A-frame at the back is about to be used to lift out the rear turret. Tocumwal was also used in the early days of the Fifth Air Force as a rear base for the repair of its bombers. It later became the main training base for RAAF Liberator crews, and in more recent times, a recreational gliding centre.

In the year 2004 two of the original 5th Air Force hangars are still at Tocumwal.
