Just to prove that not all Spitfires flew in that most boring of combat theatres - the European one ! The shapely aircraft is RAAF Spitfire A58-484 which was assigned to Squadron Leader Clive 'Killer' Caldwell who already had a considerable number of German kills to his name before he commenced Pacific duties with RAAF 452 Squadron (as demonstrated by the prefix fuselage markings CR). . The photo was taken at Noemfoor in 1944, and at this stage of Caldwell's career his Spitfire showed 27 and a half kill markings.
